Everybody loves a good autumn dish made fresh from your kitchen. Having batter on your hands and flour on your clothes is always the perfect way to spend a Sunday evening. Sometimes, people just need a good recipe to get that process started. This article includes two great fall recipes that are perfect for any chef, whether you’re an amateur or a professional, these recipes are perfect for you. This first recipe takes a while to prepare, but the end result is worth it. An irresistible, creamy lasagna with oodles of flavor is perfect for any family gathering.

Lasagna

Cooking Skill Required: Medium

Preparation Time: 2 hours

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef 
  • ½ lb Italian sausage
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 16 oz tomato sauce
  • 10 ½ oz tomato puree
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp basil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 8-10 lasagna noodles

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 lb ricotta or cottage cheese
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp parsley flakes
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1 lb mozzarella cheese, sliced

9 x 13 pan

Serves 12 people

Directions

  1. In large saucepan, brown meat and onions, then drain.
  2. Add all other ingredients for meat sauce to meat and onions, simmer uncovered for 45 minutes
  3. Cook noodles according to directions
  4. Combine all cheese mixture ingredients, set aside
  5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  6. Assemble lasagna as follows:
  7. Place ½ of the noodles in pan
  8. Cover with ½ of the cheese mixture
  9. Spread ½ mozzarella cheese
  10. Add ½ of the meat sauce on top
  11. Repeat steps 7 through 10
  12. Sprinkle top generously with parmesan cheese as desired
  13. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes
  14. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving

Lasagna is a great main course, but sides are just as important. This homemade cranberry sauce recipe is an easy dish to make that is perfect for Thanksgiving dinner as it is rich and filled with delectable spices. Taking less than 30 minutes, this simple dish is really hard to mess up.

Cranberry Sauce

Cooking Skill Required: Easy

Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Rubber spatula
  • Juicer
  • Zester
  • Knife & cutting board
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Serving dish

Instructions

  1. Stir cranberries, juices, zest, and maple syrup in a saucepan. Bring to a boil on medium-high heat, about 3 minutes.
  2. Once boiling, turn heat to medium-low and cook until cranberries burst and juice is thick, about 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove the sauce from the heat and then stir in cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
